Our Approach
Therapy at The Psyche Counselling is grounded in Jungian analytical psychology, using symbolic and reflective practices such as dream work, Tarot, and Sandplay to engage with the inner world. Complementary approaches like CBT, ACT, and mindfulness support insight, psychological flexibility, and practical coping skills, all within an LGBTQ+ affirmative framework that honours lived experience and provides a safe, supportive space while fostering growth, integration, and authentic self-expression.
Jungian &
Depth-Oriented Work
Explore the unconscious through symbolic and reflective methods
Rooted in Jungian analytical psychology, this approach explores unconscious material and symbolic imagery to support self-reflection, insight, and personal growth. Work with Dreams, Tarot, Sandplay, and other symbolic media provides clients with ways to engage with their inner world in creative and meaningful ways. These methods are guided by each individual’s pace and needs, fostering understanding, integration, and authentic self-expression.

Sandplay Therapy
Express inner experiences through creative symbolic play
Sandplay Therapy, developed by Dora Kalff and rooted in the psychological theories of Carl Gustav Jung, is a non-verbal therapeutic approach that allows inner experiences to be expressed through images and symbols rather than words. Using a tray of sand and a collection of miniature figures, individuals create scenes that reflect their inner world. This process allows unconscious material to emerge in symbolic form, supporting psychological integration and healing. Sandplay can be used with children, adolescents, and adults.

Cognitive and Acceptance-Based Therapies
Structured approaches to understand thoughts, emotions, and behavior
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) are structured therapeutic approaches that explore the relationship between thoughts, emotions, and behavior. CBT focuses on identifying and shifting patterns of thinking and responding that may contribute to distress, offering practical tools for navigating challenges such as stress, worry, or low mood. ACT complements this work by incorporating mindfulness and values-based reflection, helping individuals develop psychological flexibility and relate differently to difficult thoughts and emotions. These approaches are delivered in a collaborative, client-led way, reflecting Person-Centred principles, and supporting insight, resilience, and movement toward a life guided by what matters most.

LGBTQ+ affirming practices
Creating a safe, inclusive space for diverse identities and experiences
LGBTQ+ Affirming Practice creates a therapeutic environment where diverse sexual orientations, gender identities, and lived experiences are respected and understood. This approach recognises the social and psychological challenges that LGBTQ+ individuals may encounter, including stigma, discrimination, and questions of identity and belonging. Therapy offers a reflective and supportive space to explore these experiences, supporting self-understanding, resilience, and the development of a life that feels authentic and meaningful.
